I will be studying abroad in May 2019. I will be traveling to Arusha, Tanzania and staying there for 4 weeks. This is a program that is designed especially for Math Education majors like myself. While I am there I will be planning lessons and teaching in a local school for 15-20 hours every week. I will also have daily Swahili lessons from a local instructor and spend time volunteering in a local orphanage.
While in Tanzania I plan on completing my senior capstone class. This trip is a big step towards my goal of becoming a math teacher, and will help prepare me for my student teaching and student teaching next school year. It will also help put me one step ahead of competitors when I am applying for teaching jobs in the future, since I will be gaining a unique and challenging experience teaching in a classroom. It is an incredible opportunity that I would hate to pass up; the only thing that is holding me back is the expense. This would also be my first time traveling outside of the country and I couldn't think of a better experience than getting to educate children. I would be very grateful for anyone that would like to help me with the cost of this trip. The funds raised are going to help me pay for the travel expenses, the class credit expenses/tuition, and my passport and visa expenses. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I would hate to miss out on. Even if you can only donate $5, anything helps. Thank you, I appreciate you all very much.
