The warmest hello from The Styx Chyx! We are glad you're here and we hope you will consider helping us kickstart our project.
¡Bienvenidos a The Styx Chyx!
We are Emily and Thea: two zany chyx on a creative quest to explore the many facets of death: dying, loss, grieving, celebrating. (Yup, you read that right!)
Death is one thing that we all have in common. It is one of the most universal experiences, while at the same time extremely personal, complex, and mysterious. In other words, it’s a lot.
Our stories differ but we, the Styx Chyx, share a learning that informs our vision. In personally bearing witness to death, we were forever changed. Amidst the beauty, confusion, and pain that we experienced, we have discovered deep gratitude for what was, what is, and what will be. We envision a world where death is discussed openly, and we are committed to helping make it happen.
We are at the genesis of this adventure and we hope you will join us as we continue to build a community and create content that informs, inspires, and ultimately pays reverence to the full spectrum of life - with the end in mind, of course.
About us… We are two gals with lots of gumption. We met while traveling in South America and quickly came to realize that we had a special bond as we had both experienced the profound loss of a parent as young adults.
About our name… The Styx Chyx is a nod to the River Styx in Greek mythology, where it was believed that all souls must cross to enter the Underworld. This reference to crossing over into a mysterious ‘beyond’ is a great representation of the journey we are embarking on together.
About the journey thus far… We are still in the early days, but we kicked things off in Mexico, where we completed our first community workshop titled "WTF is Death" and attended our first death festival, DÃa de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). We worked alongside local culture guides who donated their artistic talents, time, and networks to support our work.
About the journey ahead… Exciting things are in store! We will build a website and social channels where we will share curated content as well as our own work, all attributed to the vast range of topics about the final phase of life. We will also be hosting our first Afterparty, a pop-up event, in early 2020, and we hope to speak at an end-of-life conference. Stay tuned!
About you… This whole vision and journey are for you: our families, friends, and growing community of humans seeking a more positive experience with death. The most impactful ways you can help us launch are:
1) Share this page with your social networks by clicking on the buttons above
2) Fund our project. Whatever you are able to give will help us with our start-up costs!
3) Follow along as we continue to create and grow:
Let's talk dying.
