Help Delaram Beat Cancer, and Help Other Children in Need!

My name is Saeid Pasandideh, and I am grateful for the support that has helped to finally bring Delaram, my 13-year-old daughter, to Canada.

For the past five years, Delaram has suffered from Ewing sarcoma, a very rare cancerous tumor that grows inside bones and the soft tissues around the entire body.

For years, we lived as Iranian refugees in Turkey. My wife Maryam and I could not afford the medical care Delaram needed. We could only watch as tumors spread to her legs, her head and other parts of her body.

Our hospital in Turkey gave her pain medication and cleaned her wounds, but it did not have the staff and equipment to give her the right medical treatment.

Now, thanks to the generosity of the Canadian people, we hope that her life can change. We have been resettled to Canada, and finally, she can receive more advanced treatment.

If you have been involved in any way, you helped make this happen. We introduced Delaram to the world through Twitter, and many people contacted the United Nations on our behalf. More recently, more than 22,000 supporters signed our petition on Change.org.

Finally, this month, the United Nations and  the Canadian government resettled us to Canada, and we are thankful for it.

Now, Delaram begins a new chapter. After many years, we hope to go from just treating her pain and dressing her wounds to truly fighting the cancer and giving her a chance at life.

To those who helped, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. And Delaram can’t tell you now, but she sends her sincere thanks too.

You can still help us as continue to see what can be done for Delaram. Much of her care will be paid for, but we anticipate significant postoperative care expenses.

In her honor, we'd also like to use our momentum of support to help other refugee children. Once our critical bills are paid, we'd like to donate any unused funds to other children with serious medical issues. There are many of these children whose stories have not been told.
