Mahmoud is a 25-year-old humanitarian aid worker who usually works hard to fundraise and distribute donations to his local community with the Smile project. After October 7th, 2023, Mahmoud and his entire family were displaced and forced to evacuate from their home in Khuza'a, east of Khan Yunis, which has since been demolished entirely. Mahmoud's extended family of 26 people, including 9 children, is now taking shelter in a tent (pictured) in the Al-Hourani school west of Khan Yunis, nearby Al-Nasr Hospital.
In the past month, the school shelter, hospital, and surrounding neighborhood have all been the target of illegal military threats, airstrikes and ground attacks, showing that nowhere is safe, not even the south. For over five weeks straight, Mahmoud and his family have faced constant bombardment in sub-human living conditions, losing family members and friends while they quickly ran out of food, clean water, fuel, and medical supplies due to the illegal siege. They have even been targeted while praying, leading to the hospitalization of several of Mahmoud's family members.
Please help us raise funds so Mahmoud can secure basic survival needs and essentials for his whole extended family of 26 people and continue doing important humanitarian aid work. Due to the current desperate situation, local market prices for all remaining items and resources are extremely inflated, significantly increasing the cost of living. On top of this, heavy rains in the past couple days have resulted in major water damage to their tent and all their belongings, including blankets and mattresses which they had to throw away.
The money raised will go directly to Mahmoud so his family can buy:
•Nylon to cover and reinforce the tent in which his family sleeps for protection,
•Mattresses and warm blankets for 26 people,
•Clean water and food, enough for 26 people,
•Flour to make bread from scratch, as standing bakeries can no longer function,
•Medicine and medical supplies to prevent and recover from physical ailments,
•Warm winter clothes for 26 people,
•Fuel in the form of cooking gas,
•A cell phone that connects to international internet, as his was damaged, and
•Canned goods, cleaning supplies, and other survival essentials.
