Founded in 1968 by Grandmaster Seiichi Tanaka, San Francisco Taiko Dojo is the first and oldest school devoted to the art of Japanese taiko drumming in North America. Today, San Francisco Taiko Dojo is comprised of over a hundred students, ranging in age from six to over sixty, from all backgrounds, professions, ethnicities, and skill levels. Many of Grandmaster Tanaka’s students have gone on to lead renown taiko groups around the world.
We are excited to celebrate our 50th year by hosting the International Taiko Festival concerts on November 10 and 11, 2018 at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center in San Mateo, CA.
The International Taiko Festival concerts celebrate Taiko Dojo’s achievements throughout the decades with performances from guests around the world and also highlight San Francisco Taiko Dojo’s signature style of playing. This event will feature not only San Francisco Taiko Dojo and the premier youth group San Francisco Taiko Dojo Rising Stars but also guest artists from near and far.
