Liz and Avery SkillsUSA National Conference!

To community members, family, and friends!

Our names are Liz Phillips and Avery Thompson, and recently we competed in the 2018 SkillsUSA California State competition! We are students from California’s central coast, and are currently sophomores in high school. We are a team competing in Web Design, which is all about coding and programming websites with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.

SkillsUSA is a national organization that is committed to training students for many different careers, and in different technologies. The Region 2 competition we competed in in February spanned schools on the California Central Coast, and has 879 students. We competed as two of 137 students from Paso Robles High School. We won Gold in our competition, which means we were invited to advance to the State competition level! The State Conference was held over a four day event, in Ontario, California, and had all the medalists from each region in each competition competing. There, we competed against about 16 other teams in Web Design, working to build a website completely from scratch in just seven hours. We placed Gold in our event, and are very excited to announce we will be going to the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, along with 7 other students from or school!

There are many expenses our Chapter will help the students pay. However, each student is asked to raise a portion of their expenses. The total cost per student is about $1500, and covers things  like transportation (plane flights), hotel lodging, registration, food, attire, etc, but each student is being asked to raise $500 individually. Therefore our goal as a team is to raise about $1000.

We would really appreciate any donations you are able to give, and every bit counts! Last year, Liz competed and won Silver at regional, and Bronze at State! This fundraiser will benefit both the both of us, as we each have to pay $500. Please share this page with anyone you know who may be interested or able to help!

Thank you for reading, and we hope you can consider helping our cause!
