Ally's Service Dog

Ally is a 17 year-old girl from Toledo, Ohio who suffers from c-PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Dissociative Disorder, and Anxiety Disorder due to chronic and sustained trauma beginning in early childhood and spanning more than two-thirds of her life.  She is currently in a treatment program to help her cope with the severity of her conditions and while she’s made some remarkable progress, she still has a long way to go in the recovery process.

Ally’s doctors and therapists believe that she would benefit from the aid of a service dog that is specifically trained to assist her in her daily activities.  The dog would also help her cope during dissociative episodes, times of sensory overload and periods of hypervigilance as well as serve as a “spacer” between Ally and others when in crowded or uncomfortable environments.

Unfortunately, the family’s insurance will not cover the cost of a service animal. A well-trained service dog from a reputable provider can cost between $10,000 and $20,000 out of pocket. This is just not something that is feasible for Ally’s family at this time given the other costs of managing her care.  

After months of research and inquiry, Ally’s family has been contacted about the possibility of securing a service dog prospect they can begin training themselves. The dog would be made available to Ally from a reputable provider for a discounted price of $1,500 (including travel expenses). While the family is grateful for the assistance, even the discounted price is simply too much for them to afford at this time.

We’d like to help Ally receive the assistance she needs and go on to lead a normal life despite the circumstances that brought her to where she is today. Would you be willing to help this child?
